:: JUBA PEACE PROCESS
The launch of Operation Lightening Thunder (OLT) on 14th December 2008 meant the collapse of the Juba Peace Initiative. This follows several failed attempts at signing the Final Peace Agreement by the LRA leader Joseph Kony. According to the Government of Uganda, OLT was meant to presurise the LRA to sign the Final Peace Agreement (FPA) or militarily bring to a total end the LRA rebellion.

In January 2009, the Government of Uganda annmounced deferral of the implementation of the PRDP to next financial year (2009/2010). This deferal only applies to the 30% Government of Uganda's contribution to the PRDP. This was due to the Government's inability to secure the 30% contribution meant for 2008/2009 financial year. The deferral doesnt apply to the 70% development partners' contribution activities (which are on going). The Government also plan ot use this period to streamline several issues surrounding the implementation of the PRDP.

The Civil Society Organizations for Peace in Northern Uganda (CSOPNU) was established in May 2002 as a “loose” coalition to “advocate for a just and lasting peace in Northern Uganda. The coalition was initiated by a few individuals working for different NGOs but gained the interest of several CSO. The coalition brings together local and International Civil Society Organizations working towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Northern Uganda.
The coalition is not constituted as a legal entity (thus not registered) and derives its legal status from its constituent membership of legally registered organizations. In addition the coalition operates under a hosting arrangement by one of its members which also provides the administrative infrastructure and system for the management of the day-to-day operations of the coalition. CSOPNU is being hosted by CARE International in Uganda.
During the early stages, the coalition was managed by the Steering Committee. With the growing influence and expanding membership, it became impracticable for the Steering Committee to manage the coalition besides their full time jobs. A National Advocacy Coordinator was recruited to undertake the day-to-day management of the colaition.
